General Services Administration awards QSSI the Design/Build of Historic House Envelop Repairs at the Dolley Madison House

On April 7, 2017 the General Services Administration awards QSS International Inc the Design/Build of Historic House Envelop Repairs at the Dolley Madison House.

Standing side by side, the Dolley Madison House, Tayloe House, and the old Cosmos Club boast influential former owners and have played host to countless confidential meetings among presidents, congressmen, and prominent politicians. These buildings are individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places and are contributing buildings in the Lafayette Square National Historic Landmark District.

The scope of the project addresses a variety of exterior envelope repairs that are necessary to rectify the current poor condition and to prevent future damage to the historic structures. Inspection of the buildings found cracked and missing mortar, spalled, cracked and displaced bricks, deteriorated sealants, cracked and missing glazing, and failed paint. The stucco at the Dolley Madison has been covered, early last century with shotcrete. All of these conditions allow moisture to infiltrate the buildings, which results in the deterioration of historic fabric.
