QSSI was awarded the REPAIR AND INSTALL AIR COMPRESSOR – BLDG #15 AND BLDG #78- REPLACE DESICCANT DRYERS for the USCG Baltimore Yard.

The purpose of this project is to (1) Repair existing gas fired, water cooled air compressor in Building #15, (2) Replace existing electric motors in two Quincy water cooled air compressors with new 350hp electric motors, (3) install a new 1500cfm rotary screw air cooled compressor in the south end of Building #78, and (4) Replace two existing Van Air Desiccant air dryers with two new air dryers.

DEMOLITION: Remove existing electrical and piping necessary to complete new work. Remove three existing Van Air Desiccant Dryers, one between piers 2 and 3 in front of the Oak Ridge, one in front pier 2, and one from in front of building #32 on Adams St.

Place new concrete pad for new air compressor and equipment under existing exterior roof (refer to drawing). Frame under existing roof and enclose with three walls, corrugated exterior metal panels providing a minimum clearance of 6ft around the sides and 8ft clearance at the ends of the new compressor. Metal Framing is to be all 18 ga. 3-5/8” studs in galvanized metal. Refer to drawing.

Install new 7’x6’ steel double entry doors with metal framing. Install all necessary door hardware and provide lock set matching the existing CG Yard key system. Refer to drawing.

Install new lighting in the new compressor room with four (4) 2’x4’ two bulb hanging industrial lights with wall switch.

Install new 12,000 BTU 460V/3 phase electric heater in the new compressor room.

Install one (1) 2000cfm roof exhaust fan and wire to run when the new compressor is engaged.

Frame and install three (3) anodized aluminum 30”x30” automatic dampers (120V) with filter grilles on the new walls. Dampers shall be wired to open when the new compressor is engaged and closed when not engaged.
