QSSI was recently awarded the New MSSL Facility at the U.S. Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City, NC.
Building 77
The general project scope for Building 77 is to provide electrical upgrades to the existing electrical service and provide a new service for Building 80. The existing electrical service shall be upgraded to accommodate the new proposed electrical load for Building 80 including replacing the existing transformer, replacing the secondary feeder cables, providing a new main circuit breaker and a new circuit breaker to feed the new Blast Media Reclamation System. The existing 800-amp main switchboard will be re-fed from the new main breaker. A new generator shall be provided for 28 volts DC at 400 Hz to the indicated locations within Building 80.
Building 80
The general project scope for Building 80 is to provide for the indicated renovation and building addition to convert the existing shop building to the new Mission Sustainment System Laboratory (MSSL). The work shall include all the necessary components including structural, architectural, HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, electrical, data and communications.
Demolition will be required on the existing building construction including removal of existing overhead doors, interior partitions, interior finishes, interior doors, exterior wall louvers, existing building HVAC and electrical systems, cutting openings in exterior walls and removal of existing building components. The exterior concrete apron surrounding the building shall be saw cut and removed to install foundations, new utilities and new construction.
New construction shall include a building addition containing the EKMS Vault and Pallet Storage areas. The addition includes reinforced concrete foundations, concrete slab, concrete masonry unit walls, steel roof structure and standing seam metal roofing system to match the existing building construction. Provide new exterior doors, frames and hardware, new storefront window system, metal building infill construction to match the exiting building, and concrete pavement repairs. The renovation of the existing building space shall be provided for Laboratories, Lobby, Toilet, Break Room, Fire Riser Closet, Electrical & Communications Room and space for future expansion Provide new interior partitions, interior doors, frames and hardware, interior finishes, raised access flooring system, interior storefront system, suspended acoustical ceilings, break room cabinets, toilet accessories, HVAC systems, plumbing fixtures, plumbing systems, electrical power, lighting, communications and data, fire protection and fire alarm system.
Building 101
The general project scope for Building 101 is to provide for the indicated renovation to convert the lower floor of the existing two-story building to the new Pipe Shop, an exterior metal stairs for second floor access/egress, and fire suppression for the second floor. The work shall include all the necessary components including steel stairs, architectural, HVAC, plumbing, fire suppression, electrical, data and communications.
Demolition will be required on the existing building construction including removal of existing doors, existing building HVAC and electrical systems, cutting openings in exterior walls and removal of existing building components. Minor exterior demolition and relocation of existing construction is required to accommodate the installation of the new stairs.
New construction shall include a steel exterior stairs providing second floor access and egress. The stairs includes reinforced concrete foundations, painted steel support structure, painted steel stairs, exterior steel door, frame and hardware, and new concrete walkways. Provide new exterior door, frame and hardware, metal building infill construction to match the exiting building, and concrete pavement. The renovation of the existing building space shall be provided for the new pipe shop and mechanical room. Provide new interior partitions, interior doors, frames and hardware, interior finishes, HVAC systems, plumbing systems, electrical power, lighting, communications and data, fire protection and fire alarm system upgrades. The existing pipe storage rack in Building 80 shall be relocated to the new Pipe Shop. The existing second floor opening shall be enclosed with new partitions extending from the concrete slab of the second floor up the existing roof structure. The perimeter walls of the pipe shop shall be finished with plywood over metal framing.
